Normally, when a new Magic: The Gathering set is coming out, we usually try and put together a video of the cards from the upcoming set that we’re the most excited about.
However, in the case of Double Masters, a set that only has reprinted cards from earlier sets, we felt that highlights of our discussions about what cards excited us would suffice. This has absolutely nothing to do with the one of us that usually appears on videos having a very unfortunate “cutting-your-hair-at-home” experience.

We love a good draft, and like many of the amazing previous Masters sets from MTG, Double Masters promises to be no exception. However, the three of us are primarily Commander players and really love when a Masters set comes out because it introduces us to cards we didn’t know much about before, and more importantly, helps drive down the price on cards we’ve really been wanting to get our hands on.
We had fun picking out the following cards from Double Masters that have us really excited!

Boon Reflection
Boyfriend: Belmont
Why are you excited about this card:
“I play a lot of Orzhov with life gain as one of the possible win conditions so this card, while expensive to cast, is going to be a great addition. “

Austere Command
Boyfriend: Alex
Why are you excited about this card:
“It’s just a great commander staple that’s becoming more accessible with a reprint.”

Archangle of Thune
Boyfriend: Nick
Why are you excited about this card:
“This is a great card for my Selesnya Life Gain and Counters deck that I’m brewing (coming soon). I love the synergy with recent cards like Conclave Mentor and Wildwood Scourge that we talked about in our video on Core 2021. “

Well of Ideas
Boyfriend: Belmont
Why are you excited about this card:
“I mean, isn’t card drawing the best part of Magic? To add this to a commander deck being led by Niv-Mizzet Parun is *mwuah* perfection! “

Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Boyfriend: Belmont
Why are you excited about this card:
“This is not so much for play as it is to complete my collection. I have every other version of Jace and this card has been so freaking expensive that even having a chance at it again is beyond exciting”

Skirsdag High Priest
Boyfriend: Belmont
Why are you excited about this card:
“This is just such a enjoyable and exciting card for many of the black deck archetypes. It definitely holds a high place of honor in one of my more ‘flavor over function’ decks that I call ‘Above and Below‘.”

Dualcaster Mage
Boyfriend: Nick
Why are you excited about this card:
“Obviously the flagship card of the set, but this is a MUCH needed reprint that is very popular in Commander. Also I want one so bad.”

Exploration
Boyfriend: Nick
Why are you excited about this card:
“A good cheap enchantment that might help the occasional flooding in my Bant Enchantress Deck“.

Maelstrom Nexus
Boyfriend: Nick
Why are you excited about this card:
” I love me some cascade, though I haven’t seen it in Commander as much as I’d expect despite the ‘tutor-like’ nature of the effect”.

Scarab God
Boyfriend: Belmont
Why are you excited about this card:
“As we mentioned in our first ever deck tech, I love me some Dimir zombie action. This definitely is going into that deck! The fact that it was announced when we were writing that zombie piece is a sign from Liliana herself.”

Weapons Trainer
Boyfriend: Nick
Why are you excited about this card:
“I honestly didn’t know this existed till now, but this would be amazing in my Boros Buff Friends with Swords deck!”

Darksteel Forge
Boyfriend: Alex
Why are you excited about this card:
“I have a bunch of artifact-themed decks and frankly, indestructibility doesn’t suck.”

Spring Leaf Drum
Boyfriend: Belmont
Why are you excited about this card:
“I run a lot of token decks, so having this kind of fixing while sitting on a bunch of small creatures would be really really helpful.”

Sword of Feast and Famine
Boyfriend: Alex
Why are you excited about this card:
“What?!? It’s the only sword I don’t own yet!”

Maze of Ith
Boyfriend: Alex
Why are you excited about this card:
“Having a land that protects my s*^t seems like a good idea!”

Thespian Stage
Boyfriend: Nick
Why are you excited about this card:
“This Commander stable is a great instigator of crazy interactions and fun games!”
